Frederick James was a tailor by trade and served in the Crimean War. He was baptized into the Church 14 Aug 1860 in England . During 1861 , he and his family crossed the plains along with other members of the Bishop family. On their arrival in the Valley, the first night was spent in the Pioneer Fort and the next day they were taken to American Fork . They lived in the Tithing room until they were able to provide a dugout home for shelter. After about two years, they moved to the Murray area . During the winter of 1867-8 , while out helping a friend get his wagon out of the mud, Frederick 's feet became frozen and the doctor had to amputate a part of Frederick 's left foot. Their first real home was in Murray where they lived out their lives, although in a different home later on. They were active in the church and particularly enjoyed singing in the choir and a mixed quartet. Frederick suffered a sun stroke while working on his farm, which resulted in his death.
