Grace M. "Pete" Hoffman, 88, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday evening, June 1, 2014, after a brief illness in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by her family.
Born March 12, 1926, in Sandusky, she was the daughter of Norman Frank and Grace Mae (Kadow) Winkel Sr. She was a 1944 graduate of Sandusky High School. Grace was the secretary-treasurer for the M.H.D. Corp. for 41 years, starting back in 1947 when it was Hopper's Mobile Home & Edgewater Grove in Huron. After retiring, she continued to run "Pete's Retreat," the family's home on Put-In-Bay for over 30 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and in her earlier days she enjoyed and was proud of the fact that she had traveled all over the world. Grace was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ and a member and past president of the American Business Women's Association. She also had been selected as "The Woman of the Year."
Grace is survived by a daughter, Patty Hoffman of Sandusky; two sons, Bob Hoffman and Jeff (Debi) Hoffman, both of Huron; six grandchildren, Cory (Megan), Jared, Jade (Sean), "A.J.", Krysten and Ashlee; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Cassandra, Daniel, Caolinn and Rylee; her dog, "Mr. Skyy"; sister, Teri Winchester of Put-In-Bay; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Gloria Winkle of Huron
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert C. Hoffman; son, Doug N. Hoffman; brother, Norman F. Winkel.
At her request, no visitation will be held. Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Meadow Green Memorial Park Chapel, 2606 Bogart Road, Huron. Chaplain Mel Sayler of Stein Hospice will be officiating. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
