Donald H. Rhodes Sr., 76, of Tatnic Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at York Hospital.
He was born in South Berwick on July 21, 1931, a son of Ernest and Erma (Hamilton) Rhodes. Donald served his country in the US Army after which he worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter. After retiring, he drove a truck for Calvin Hilton Construction until recently.
Donald was an outdoorsman who enjoyed all the activities he could do there. He always had a wonderful vegetable garden and cut all his own firewood. Most of all, Donald adored his family and spending time with all of them.
His daughter, Kathy Rhodes, passed away in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (Boston) Rhodes of Wells; his daughter Kelly Rosholt and her husband, Kevin, of Berwick; his son Donald Rhodes, Jr., and his wife, Debbie, of Manchester, NH; a brother, Emerson Rhodes, of Virginia; five sisters, Edith Allen of North Berwick, Carolyn Mathews of South Berwick, Cynthia Lakin of Sanford, Lucy Wyman of Alfred and Hazel Reeves of Derry, N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his little companion, "Shamu."
An hour of visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008, from 10-11am directly followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine. Charles Jepson Jr. will officiate. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Friends who wish may contribute to the South Berwick-Wells Christian Church, 612 Emery's Bridge Road, South Berwick, ME 03908. Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.
