Carrie Van Wyk, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday morning, April 29, 2003, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born Wednesday, September 1, 1915 at Leighton, the daughter of Henry and Maggie Verwers Van Roekel. On February 17, 1938, she was united in marriage to Laurens Van Wyk at Oskaloosa, and he died August 6, 1993. Following their marriage, they farmed near Leighton for 37 years, and moved into Oskaloosa in 1975. Carrie was a longtime member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and had been active for many years in the Ladies Bible Hour and Coffee Break club of the church. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.

Carrie is survived by 3 daughters and their husbands: Luella and Clarence Van Englehoven of Marion, Iowa, Carol and Jim Lillard of Aurora, Colorado, and Shirley and Michael Masucci of Wildwood, Missouri; a son and his wife: Kenneth and Annette Van Wyk of Otley, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Linda Mae Pretet, John Eric Forsythe, Lucas Brent Van Wyk, and Michael Lourens, Carrie Frances, and Christiaan Valentino Masucci; 3 great grandchildren: Matthew Van and Johnathan Lee Pretet, and Alexis JoAnn Forsythe; a sister: Cora Schimmel of Pella; and a sister in law: Aletha Van Roekel of Oskaloosa.

Besides her husband, Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons: John Henry Van Wyk in 1965 in Vietnam while serving in the military, and Laurens Van Wyk, Jr. in 1968; 3 brothers: Bill, Clarence, and Grover Van Roekel; and 2 sisters: Minnie Vis and Lena Gray.
