Charles V. Kirkland, Sr.
January 13, 1930 - June 3, 2014
Charles passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 surrounded by his family at his residence at the age of 84. He was a retired operator and supervisor with BASF Corp. with 30 plus years of service. A resident and native of Plaquemine, he was a US Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. Visiting will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 8:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, celebrated by Father Greg Daigle. Entombment will be at Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine. He is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years Shirley Louise Miller Kirkland; daughter, Galen Kirkland Fabre and husband Oneil, Jr.; son, Allen Kirkland and wife Donna; grandchildren, Dustin Kirkland, Lindsy Kirkland Cordell, Leigh Ann Kirkland deBarros and Fallon Fabre; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Verna May Oneil Roberts and Lillian Oneil; and brothers, Louis and Richard Kirkland. Preceded in death by his son, Charles V. Kirkland, Jr.; parents, Widmer and Lillian Carmouche Kirkland; brothers, John R. "Bozo" and Roosevelt Kirkland; and 3 great grandchildren. He was a 1947 graduate of St. John High School, an avid musician, and an expert electrician. He loved fast cars and boats, was a CB enthusiast with the handle of LTC, and also enjoyed traveling and camping. Special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice.
