Cynthia graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1938, and then Cornell University in 1942 with a B. S. in Home Economics. During World War II she worked as a dietician at Stouffer Restaurant Corporation in New York City and Cleveland, Ohio. In 1944 she became the Assistant Director of Residential Halls at Vassar College.

She married Melvin Graham Hurd on March 6th, 1948 in the Poughkeepsie Reformed Church. They enjoyed a loving enduring marriage for 61 years.

Over the years, she was an active member in many Mid-Hudson Valley organizations and often served as President, Secretary or Treasurer in the Poughkeepsie Junior League, the A.A.U.W., Vassar Hospital Association, Garden Club, Children’s Home and the Dutchess County Senior Citizen’s Association. She served on the Boards of the New Paltz Study Club and Elting Memorial Library. She served actively in several local Christian ministries. She was a member of the Ulster and Orange Counties Genealogical Societies, the New England Genealogical Society and the National and NY State Huguenot Societies. She was an officer in the Mahwenawasigh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was survived by her husband and two daughters and sons-in-law, as well as six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
