Mary Helen Johnson Ahlersmeyer, 79, died unexpectedly at 12:40 AM Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in the Lafayette Home Hospital emergency room. Born Aug. 11, 1923, in West Lebanon, she lived in Lafayette since 1950. She married Dr. Fred E. Ahlersmeyer, a retired podiatrist, on Jan. 18, 1947, in Whitestown; he survives.

Mrs. Ahlersmeyer graduated from Attica High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She received an honorary degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne. She was a registered nurse in Fort Wayne and Chicago for four years. She then worked at Comfort Health Care in Lafayette for 16 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Food Pantry and Hanna Center.

Surviving with her husband are three sons, Fritz E. Ahlersmeyer of Rossville, Stephen E. Ahlersmeyer of Indianapolis and Bradley K. Ahlersmeyer (wife Natalie) of Speedway; a sister, Gladys Vaughn of Indianapolis; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Service Nov. 20 at Christ United Methodist Church, the Rev. Craig LaSuer officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
