George Claire Stewart, Jr., DVM, 91 of Abilene passed away at his home on June 3, 2014 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene, from 6:30 to 8:30 on Thursday, June 5, 2014. A celebration of Dr. Stewart's life will be held in the Chapel at First Baptist Church on June 6, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Mike Greenfield and Palmer McCown officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

George Stewart was born to preachers George Claire Stewart, Sr. and Cora Lehman, September 6, 1922, near Selman, OK.
He went to school in Kansas.
He married Katherine Frances Glover on March 15, 1945, in Brady, TX.
He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine until 1957 at which time he joined the USDA and became a federal veterinary meat inspector beginning that career in Humboldt, TN. After moving to Abilene in 1964, he was a federal meat inspector at Gooch Packing Company until his retirement in 1984.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps.
He was an ordained deacon, serving in many churches.
Dr. Stewart was very involved with the Boy Scouts in Abilene.
As the chaplain of the Good Sam's Eager Beaver camping group for several years, he led many devotionals at campsites.
He and his wife enjoyed participating with the Square Dance Clubs of Abilene and surrounding areas.
George is preceded in death by one son George William Stewart, his parents, sisters Lucile Uhrig Lakin and Ramona Williams Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Katherine ; his children - Angela S. Lewis and husband Monty, Starla Ruth Jordan and husband Earl, and John Claire Stewart; one sister Rhoda Meyers; six grandchildren - Michael Lewis and wife Kristen of Lubbock, Sherri Lewis of Euless, David Lewis and wife Jessica of Victoria, John Stewart, Jr., James Stewart, and Mary Katherine Stewart of North Richland Hills, TX; two great-grandchildren – Carter Brent and Evyn May Lewis of Lubbock, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his four grandsons; honorary pallbearers are the men of his Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to ministries or charities of your choice.
