One of Forest Lake's long-time residents Mrs. Oscar Berggren passed away Thursday afternoon at her home. Mrs. Berggren, who had been in failing health for the past five weeks, was 89 years old. Funeral services for Mrs. Berggren were held Monday afternoon at Faith Lutheran church with the Rev. Frank A. Johnson officiating at two o'clock. Soloist Charles R. Hood of St. Paul sang three hymns -- "The Lord's Prayer", "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" with Mrs. Neil Robinson the organist. Interment was in the Scandinavian cemetery. Anna Amelia Edstrom was born January 11, 1878, in Janopins lan, Smaland, Sweden the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Edstrom. In 1883 she came to America with her parents and three brothers. The family live in Prophetstown, Illinois, for ten months and then journeyed on to Minnesota where they first settled in Forest Lake. After three months, they went on to a farm near North Branch. Anna Edstrom as one of the charter members of the Swedish Lutheran church in North Branch which was organized in 1887. This is now Trinity Lutheran church. In 1904 she was married to Oscar Berggren in Forest Lake. Mr. Berggren was the town blacksmith, and the young couple lived in rooms above the blacksmith shop on NW 2nd Street while they cut the trees and sawed the lumber to build a home on West Broadway which was to be their life-time residence. Mr. Berggren died on November 5, 1946. Surviving are five daughters and two sons. Another infant son Clayton, died in July 1920 and another son Raymond passed away on November 6, 1959. She is also survived by four brothers. There are 24 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
