William Bailey Cates, 83, of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, June 03, 2014 at his home.

He was born in Paducah, Kentucky and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. William served our country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He retired from The Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Claude Cates.

William is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cates; former wife and mother of William's children, Martha C. Martin; children, Jeff (Marla) of Raleigh, NC and Lisa and special friend Liz of Louisville, KY; step sons, Mike (Janet) Ricketts, William and Thomas Ricketts; sister, Betty Garrett of Paducah, KY; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

A graveside service for William will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 6, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in William's name to Hospice of Chattanooga at www.hospiceofchattanooga.org.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson
