James L. McMaster, Jr. "Jay", a lifelong Lincoln resident, died June 1st, 2014. He was 94. Jay founded McMaster Co. Real Estate in 1937 when he bought his first house at auction. He was 18. In 1941 he married his high school sweetheart, Doris May Stumpfmaier, and six months later entered World War II in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He served in the Aleutian Islands and in Napa Valley until he was discharged in 1945. He returned to Lincoln where he and Doris began their family while expanding the real estate business. In 1972, five years after Doris's death, Jay married Ingeborg Peterson Jennings.

A graduate of Lincoln High School, Jay had an interrupted college education at the University of Nebraska. Almost 60 years later he decided to finish that chapter and in 2004 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University. He was 82. Jay was a member of First Christian Church prior to which he was a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church. As a young man he became an Eagle Scout and later earned the Silver Beaver award. In 1940 Jay joined Masonic Lodge #300 and since 1944 was a member of the Sesostris Shrine Temple. Subsequently he became a member of Eastern Star and KCCH. In 1979 he earned the 33rd degree. Jay was a life member of the Optimist Club of Lincoln and president from 1974-75.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Stumpfmaier McMaster, and his wife, Ingeborg Jennings McMaster; his son, James L. McMaster III; his parents, James Lloyd and Dessie Ellen (Collins) McMaster; his sister, Margaret E. Rose; his brother, Collins S. McMaster. He is survived by two daughters, Margo L. Akerman and M. Jill McMaster; son-in-law, Alfred Akerman; grandchildren and spouses, Dorian Akerman Stiefel and Ian Stiefel; Adan J. Akerman and Jennifer Alford Akerman; and one great granddaughter, Mairen Stiefel, all of Tennessee. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Betty McMaster of Hooper; five nieces, and four nephews.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Lincoln Scottish Rite Temple, Masonic Liberty Lodge #300; Sesostris Shine, Eastern Star Chapter 271, and Optimist Club of Lincoln. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, 6/07, at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street. Visitation after 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation with family: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park.
