Gorham Emerson was a boot and shoemaker by trade. By all accounts, he was quite successful, building a large home for his wife & 7 living children at 1 Water St in Duxbury, where he also conducted his business. He then moved to South Boston & established the very popular Emerson & Sons Shoe & Boot business at 189 Broadway. His mother was Lucy Pratt, the daughter of Isaac & Mehitable (Nichols) Pratt.
