Son of Mrs. Annie E. Saunders who resided in West Springfield, New Hampshire.

Lyman served as a Staff Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on A-26B #41-39323, 640th Bomber Squadron, 409th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Sullivan County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on December 23, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Semiskilled teamster and also as Single, with dependents.

A-26B #41-39323 took off from Couvron, France on a bombing mission over Unna, Germany. They were hit by German ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed northwest of Unna, Germany during the war.

Lyman was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
