Rock Musician. He was the guitarist and a founding member of the popular rock and heavy metal musical group 'Voivod.' The group, which was formed in the Canadian province of Quebec in the early 1980s, consisted of lead singer Denis 'Snake' Belanger, drummer Michel Langevin, bassist Jean-Yves Theriault, and of course D'Amour on guitar. Noted for there styles of speed, progressive and thrash metal music, they helped to open the door for other Canadian thrash bands. Together the group released 13 albums including, "War & Pain" in 1984, "Rrroooaaarrr" in 1986, "Killing Technology" in 1987, "Dimension Hatross" in 1988, "Nothingface" in 1989, "Angel Rat" in 1991, "The Outer Limits" in 1993, "Negatron" in 1995, "Phobos" in 1998, "Kronik" in 1998, "Voivod Lives" in 2000, and "Voivod" in 2003. The group disbanded in 2001, but they reunited months later with a former 'Metallica' group member named Jason Newsted on bass. Denis D'Amour passed away in a hospital in Montreal, Quebec, from the effects of colon cancer, at the age of 45. The cancer that was diagnosed months earlier had also spread to his liver.
