John Gammon, 85 year old lifetime Buffalo resident, passed away late Sunday evening at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.

John Preston Gammon was born on February 8, 1929 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Clarence and Ruby Gammon. He grew up and went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1947. After high school, John attended the University of Wyoming. He was married on June 29, 1949 in Arvada to Margaret Michelena, and they made their home in Laramie where John graduated from the University with a Bachelor's Degree in Range Management. After graduation they moved to the TA Ranch south of Buffalo. In the fall of 1951, John joined the U.S. Marine Corps and they lived in Quantico, Virginia until they were transferred to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. John was deployed to Korea with the First Marine Air Wing and served during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant and was promoted to Captain. He received an honorable discharge, and he and Margaret returned to the TA Ranch where they lived until the ranch was sold in 1979. John and Margaret continued to live in Buffalo and wintered in Arizona. Margaret passed away in September of 2005 and John continued living in Buffalo and Arizona until his death.

He was member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. John loved spending time with his family and traveling. He was a member and past president of the Johnson County Farm Bureau; he was on the District 4 School board and also served as their president; member and past president of the Johnson County Fair Board; an 8-year member of the Johnson County Commissioners and served as their Chairman. He was a member of the Criminal Justice Center Joint Powers Board; the Johnson County Cattleman's Association; Wyoming Stock Growers Association; Wyoming High School Rodeo Committee; Flying Farmers of Wyoming; the Elks Club; North American Limousine Association; American Simmental Association; The Marine Corps League; American Legion Post 13 and VFW Post 2469; John was a member of the first rodeo team from the University of Wyoming and they went to the first ever National College Rodeo Finals and won a 2nd Place Trophy.

He is survived by one son John Gammon and his wife Joyce of Buffalo; one daughter Marie Miller and her husband Gerry of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Shane Gammon of Las Vegas, Nevada, Shawn Miller and his wife RayLynn of Buffalo, Heidi Stoltz and her husband Thad of Arvada, Amy Slaybaugh of Scottsdale, Arizona and Terry Slaybaugh and his wife Myra of Grand Prairie, Texas; 10 Great Grandchildren Kylie and MaKenzie Miller of Buffalo; Preston and Kellen Gammon of Las Vegas, Jayden and Kreyton Stoltz of Arvada, Tyler and Kylie Slaybaugh of Grand Prairie, Texas and Randy and Madeline Dembecki of Scottsdale, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother and one other brother Bebe Gammon and one sister Dorothy Painter.

John Gammon, 85 year old lifetime Buffalo resident, passed away late Sunday evening at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.

John Preston Gammon was born on February 8, 1929 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Clarence and Ruby Gammon.
