Herb died Monday June 2, 2014, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.
Herbert W. Laake was born Dec. 6, 1922, in Davenport, the son of Henry and Gertrude (Adams) Laake. Herb was united in marriage to Marie Weiman on April 27, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Davenport. Herb served his country in the Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate from 1942 to 1946. He was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for more than 35 years. He retired Jan. 1, 1978.
Herb was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Pallbearer Club. Herb also enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory building fund or the Handicapped Development Center.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; daughters, Linda Laake, Keokuk, Iowa, Jeanne Bacon, Davenport, and Mary Ellen (Mark) Ramsay, Indianapolis; sons, Thomas (Mary Ann) Laake, Bettendorf, and David (Diane) Laake, Lynn Center, Ill.; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Catherine Laake and Mary Margaret Laake; and brothers, Winfred, Raymond, Robert, Vincent, Walter and Francis Laake.
