January 7, 2006:

Shawnee resident Alan V. Sneed, 66, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, at a local hospital.
He was born to Victor and Maudie (Taylor) Sneed, July, 23, 1939, near Cleveland.

Sneed attended school in Cleveland, Skiatook, and Yale and graduated from Central State University. He was a school teacher for 30 years.

Sneed lived most of his life in Cleveland and moved to Shawnee in 2000.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Sneed is survived by his children, Shelley Sneed of Oklahoma City, Katherine Turcotte of Tulsa, Derek Sneed of Texas, Celeste Sneed of Atlanta, Ga., and Heath Sneed of Norman; seven grandchildren; sister, Shirlee Sneed Matlock of Shawnee; brother, Don Sneed of Ripley; companion, June Henderson of Shawnee; half-brother, Gale Sneed of Slagle; half-sister, Faye Smith of Slagle; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
