There are a million examples of his kindness, positive attitude and unstoppable faith! He never met a stranger. A fun-loving guy, he treated everyone with respect. A family man, his wife, his four daughters and their families were his world. He adored his grandchildren and their families. He still played with the great grands.
He dearly loved his church, Dayton United Methodist, and was involved in every aspect of the church life over the years. He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was always available to help with whatever needed done…cleaning carpets or July 4th celebration. He loved learning, whether at Bible Study or learning to text, his thirst of knowledge was insatiable. He took a college course at Krannert at age 54 where he was neither the oldest or the baldest! He retired in 1993 from Purdue University after 32 years. He loved gospel music. His dad and brothers spent countless hours around the piano singing 4 part harmonies, while his sister Eloise played the piano. He continued this tradition with his daughters and granddaughters.
He was a passionate Boilermaker and enjoyed all sports. He was an avid golfer.
Surviving with his wife are his four daughters, Cynthia A. Shafer (husband, Jerry), Gail L. Biss (husband, Melvyn), Deborah K. Kappes (husband, Stanley), and Nancy S. Baker (husband, Mark); two brothers, Don Yoder of Brookston and Denny Yoder of California, 10 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Maxine Yoder of Chalmers. He was preceded in death by a sister Eloise Lucas and two brothers Devon and Dean Yoder and a son who died at birth, Scott Richard Yoder.
