Ross Harold Lorenz, 88, Amboy, passed away at 3 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family and care givers.

He was born January 1, 1918 in Liberty Township of Howard County, the son of Jacob and Edith Deardorff Lorenz. He married Edna Reed on December 24, 1940 in Bennetts Switch, and she survives.

Ross attended school in Greentown. A man of great faith and integrity, he was a member of the Loree Brethren Church, and thoroughly enjoyed attending services at the church. He was a dedicated farmer and raised cattle for more than 25 years. He always enjoyed taking care of livestock.

Ross and his wife Edna lovingly raised three children and had spent the last 21 years wintering in Bradenton, Fla., where they had made many new friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edna; two sons, Dale R. Lorenz and his wife Barbara, Kokomo, and David R. Lorenz and his wife Cindy, Peru; a son-in-law, Earhardt Ballschmidt and his wife Ann, Amboy; six grandchildren, Brian Kent Ballschmidt and his wife Barbara; Anthony Lorenz and his wife Shawna; Adam Lorenz and his wife Lejona; Alex Lorenz; Richard Lorenz and his wife Beth; Michelle Hite and her husband Mitch; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna Ballschmidt, Brandon Ballschmidt, Britney Lorenz, Jordan Lorenz, Kaitlyn Hite, Laine Hite, Madelynn Lorenz and Isaac Lorenz; a great-great granddaughter, Zolie Elizabeth Lorenz; three step-grandchildren, Jacob Wilkinson, Sara Wilkinson and Lauren Wilkinson; a sister, Dorothy Lorenz of Greentown; two brothers, Kenneth Lorenz and his wife Verda, Greentown, and Carl Lorenz and his wife Dorothy, Greentown; and an aunt, Evelyn Lantz of Wabash.


He was preceded in death by a dear daughter, Joyce Elaine Ballschmidt on September 1, 1989; five brothers, Earl, Ralph, Ernest, Paul and Donald Lorenz, and a sister, Esther Bird.

A service celebrating the life of Ross H. Lorenz will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006, at the Laird Funeral Home, 201 North Main Street, Amboy, with the Reverend Richard Martens officiating.

Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery, Amboy.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the American Diabetes Association, or the Loree Brethren Church.
