YARMOUTH -- Ellen A. (Hawkes) Patterson, 89, died peacefully in home at Princes Point in Yarmouth on March 19, 2014.
Ellen was born on Aug. 27, 1924, to Alice Potter and Charles Hawkes of Yarmouth. She graduated from Portland High School in 1942 then was employed at Crosby-Laughlin for 31 years.
Ellen enjoyed watching the neighborhood children grow up, especially the Thompson kids, who she baby-sat from their birth. She did volunteer work at Audubon in Falmouth for 15 years and also did the 'Good Friday Habitat Walk' from 1996 to 2011. She enjoyed knitting things for her family and baking candy to give to the grandchildren at Christmas; needhams were her specialty.
Ellen was a great lady and will be missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Donald E. Patterson, in 1996. Ellen is survived by her three children, her son, Daniel Patterson and his with Arlene, her daughters, Sally A. Small and Terry Patterson; five grandsons, Billy and Terry Small, Ronald and Al Spiller, Daniel Patterson Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler and Caydence Small, Ashley Patterson, Josh Rand, Courtney, Lucas, Jake and Jason Spiller; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Madison Barrant and Seth Small.
An hour of visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 346 Main St., Yarmouth, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., Pastor Ric Ochsner officiating. A reception followed in the church hall.
