Afternoon For Mrs. Pope
Funeral services for Mrs. J.G. Pope, 77, who died at 6:15 a.m. Friday in Minden Sanitarium following a stroke on Wednesday night at her home here, were held at 2 p.m. yesterday in chapel of Green-Kleinegger Funeral Home.
Services were conducted by the Rev. E.H. Phillips and the Rev. Truman Aldredge. Burial was in Minden Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Howard Davenport, Hassel Gray, John M. Browning, George Cunningham, David James, James Baird, Walter White and Banks Craton. Honorary pallbearers were J.H. Nelson, J.E. Harper, F.F. Van Peene, Rev. J.A. Alford, Frank B Treat, Sr., C.O. Holland, Harry Andress and John A. Lewis.
A native of Minden, Mrs. Pope was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Stewart who were among the early prominent residents of the area. She was a member of the Minden Presbyterian Church where until the time of her death she was active in all phases of church work.
Survivors are her husband; one son, William Stewart Pope of Renton, Wash; two brothers, Graham Stewart of Minden and David Stewart of Ringgold; one sister, Mrs. Lawson Davis of Minden; and two grandchildren.
