Martin Hilgar Beyer, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 at St. Lukes Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Ensrude officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Mark Hierholzer was the organist for the service and the Zion Mens Choir sang.
Prior to the service, the body lay in state in the chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home.
Beyer was born in Gillespie County on Sept. 8, 1925, the son of Hilgar Paul Beyer and Selma Weber Beyer. He married Elvira Dorothy Dietz on Nov. 17, 1951 in Zion Lutheran Church and she preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 1987.
Beyer was a farmer and rancher and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as council president, sang with the church choirs, in addition to being a director, served as a substitute organist and on various committees of the church, including being a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Emma and Dennis Dale Crenwelge of Turlock, CA and one step-granddaughter.
In addition, he is survived by a sister-in-law, Isabella, Mrs. Archie Soell of Fredericksburg.
Beyer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jonathan Beyer.
