Since then and while she was able, she enjoyed being a homemaker taking care of her family, preserving food from her garden, growing flowers, sewing her own wardrobe, making quilts, crocheting afghans and for a time milked her cows and sold milk to Carnation Milk Company for extra money. She always kept daily journals describing what was going on in her life or things that she did and she also avidly clipped newspaper articles and obituaries of everyone she knew. She especially enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and for her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews when they came to visit and everyone was expected to eat whether they were hungry or not.
