Phyllis "PJ" A. James, 86, of Cadiz, Ky., formerly of Evansville, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was born July 27, 1927, in Evansville to the late George and Mildred (Schlegel) Rosenkranz.
Phyllis was a 1945 graduate of Central High School and lifetime member of Bethany Christian Church. She also attended Siloam United Methodist Church in Kentucky. PJ retired as office manager of Loge News Company after more than 40 years and started her own business, G & S Sportsman's Warehouse, which she ran with her son for 10 years. She also played violin for 33 years with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother.
PJ was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Michael James and Terry Alan James; and brother, G. Winfred Rosenkranz.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Linda L. James-Suver (Jerry Suver), and Sarah A. Burgett (late husband, David Burgett), of Southport, N.C.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. (See full listing at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Bethany Christian Church, officiated by Dr. Dan Lovell, with burial in Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday at Alexander North Chapel from 3 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
