Melva was called by her middle name June by her family during her early years. She started going by her first name Melva before her marriage to Warren M. Holmes, Jr. Melva married Warren in December of 1950 in Houston, Texas. They lived on Rusk Street in Houston for 4 years and then moved to Spring Branch, an up and coming new suburb of Houston. There they raised 3 children, Eleanor, Bradley, and Karen. Warren passed away in 1972. Melva remarried in January of 1977 to Dimitre Pete Stoilis.
