VERONA/MOUNT HOREB — Frank J. Schmitz, age 72, of Rural Verona, died in a Madison hospital on Monday, July 8, 1991, after a long illness. Mr. Schmitz was a lifetime area resident born in Pine Bluff, Wisconsin on April 12, 1919. He was the son of Henry and Mary Schmitz. He was married to Frieda Ballmoos of Argyle, Wisconsin on September 27, 1947. Frank was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139. He was employed by the Vogel Brothers Construction Company from 1947 until he retired because of a disability in 1974. He was a Distinguished Veteran of World War II and a member of the Verona American Legion Mason Lindsey Post #385. Frank is survived by his wife, Freida; a son, two daughters, three grandchildren, two sisters, Kathleen Schultz of Madison, and Blanch (Jim) Pixler of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 1991, at 11:00 a.m. at THE ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, Mount Horeb. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 1991. A military graveside service will be held by the Legion Post at Sunset Memory Gardens.

Frank was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Our love for him will last forever.
