He was born Jan. 2, 1915, in Kankakee, to Joe L. Stith Sr. and Bessie Knowles.
Joe worked at the Public Service Company, Com Ed, and many other jobs until he retired in 1980. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Kankakee Masonic Lodge, Kankakee Chapter 78 RAM, Medina Shrine (Chicago), Kankakee Exchange Club, Kankakee Shrine Club, Owisco Council, Ivanhoe Commandry, Dorcas Chapter 5 O.E.S. and Bloomington Consistory A.A.S.R. Some of his favorite things were singing in the church choir, making candy, gardening and spending time with family.
Surviving are his son, John (Sandy) Stith, of Kankakee; grandchildren, Allison (Justin) Watford, Elizabeth (Ben) Koven, and Jennifer (Dan) Douglas, step-grandson, Corey Rauch, step-granddaughter, Mindy Rauch, and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brayden, Olivia, Brigham and Preston; step-great-grandchildren, Paige, Izabella, Gabriella and Arabella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lillian Stith; brother, William Donald Stith; and step-great-grandson, Peyton Rauch.
A gathering time for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Kankakee, until the 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens.
