Lawyer and politician. He graduated from Yale University and studied law in Chicago, IL before moving to Janesville in 1883. There he practiced law and entered politics. He was a state senator from 1897-1912. He was president of the Wisconsin Bar Association from 1921-22 and was curator for the Wisconsin State Historical Society for many years.
