U.S. Congressman. After graduating from high school in 1918, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. After the war, he remained active in the Naval Reserves, engaged in the dry-goods business, entered the newspaper business as an editor at Norwalk, Ohio and was commander of the Ohio State American Legion. In 1937, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fifth and Seventy-sixth Congresses, serving until 1941. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, promoted to Captain in 1942, serving as director of recruiting and induction until 1946. He then was director of the Citizens National Bank and president of a broadcasting company in Norwalk, Ohio. He also served as executive director of President Eisenhower’s Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, (1954-55). At the time of his death, he was president of the Norwalk Reflector-Herald and the Sandusky Register newspapers.
