SIMON A. KOOYMAN

Simon A. Kooyman, son of Peter Kooyman and Artie Van Tuyl was born on a farm near Leighton, Ia. on July 1, 1898. At 14 years of age he entered the employ of Andrew Vanderwal in his harness and shoe shop, which in 1928 he took over as owner-operator. In this business ho continued to carry on at the same location in Pella till his death which come on the morning of October 8, 1956 having reached the age of 58 years, 3 months and 3 days.

On December 1, 1926 he was united in marriage with Bertha Van Zomeren at Pella. To this union were born 3 children: Wallace A., Kenneth L. and Marvin G., all of Pella.

Suviving [sic] him are his wife, three sons, a grandchild, Douglas Gene; and one brother and one sister, Tunis Kooyman and Martha Кооуman both of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Simon has been active in church and community affairs, serving for several terms on the consistory of his church, holding a directorship in both the Christian grade and high school boards as well as serving on the city council. During his last illness he remained a patient sufferer and shall aways be remembered by his family and friends as one true to his confession. His profession of faith was made in the First Chr. Ref. Church of Pella and at the time of his death he was a member of the Calvary Chr. Ref. Church.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon October 5, 1956 with Rev. Marvin C. Doornbos assisted by the Rev. P. Y. De Jong in charge. Family services were at 1:00 at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home followed at 1:30 by services from the First Christian Reformed Church. Burial was made in Oakwood cemetery. Mrs. Gysbert Ver Meer served as organist. Accompaning a quartette composed of Marwin Van Gorp, Max Hoeksema, Dale Gosselink, Les Lanser, was Mrs. Marvin Van Gorp. Casket bearers were some of his nephews, Wilbur Kooyman, Simon Kooyman, William De Kock, Wilbur Van Zomeren, Donald Beerends, Elmer Bloem.
