Wes Stewart passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24th. Both sudden and unexpected. Wes was born February 07, 1936 in Nevada City, Nevada. At the age of twelve years the family moved to Oakdale.

He was a member of the Oak Valley Church and is at peace with his Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margie; and his son, Tim of Oakdale; two step sons, Bill Clawson of Eureka and Jack Clawson of Modesto; one grandson, SP4 Brian Clawson his wife, Allison; one great grandson. Brian is stationed at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.

Wes's father, Bill Stewart and mother, Lillie, owned Stewarts family market in Oakdale. Wes worked for his dad through school. Later on became an associate/owner/butcher.

The Stewart family joined Oak Valley church when they arrived, and were all lifetime members. Wes served as Deacon and Church Board Member. With this family's dedication and willingness to serve the Lord, contributed to the building and growth of the church.

Upon graduation from Oakdale High school. Wes love for the Lord was evident he received his Master Degree in Theology.

Wes also had a interest in politics. He served on the city council from 1964-1969 and Mayor from 1970-1972. Wes also was city clerk and Vice Mayor, spending a total of sixteen years in city government.

Wes completed twenty years of service in January 1996. Retiring as a SSG E6. Wes assignments were with *170th Automatic Weapons Bn, 40th Inf Division. *Co C I - 184th lnf. (M) Oakdale, California *HQ184th Inf (M) Modesto, California *Det 5 Starc, Sacramento, California.

Wes was in the Oakdale unit during the Korean War. He also attended numerous Military Service Schools. He was a Mess SGT/Cook, Personnel clerk, Retention NCO and Career Councellor. Wes received many awards during his Military Service. The most significant award was his Outstanding Recruiting and Retention NCO award for the State of California.

His latest award was Oakdale's Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented on January 17, 2014. More than two hundred people came out to the Gene Bianchi Community Center for the Chamber of Commerce's 68th Annual Award dinner.

Wes was a Chaplian for the Oakdale Police Department. Wes started the Caps program with the Oakdale Police Department. Wes had a special place in his heart for the Seniors. He visited through out the city as a Caps Senior Outreach Representative.

Wes and Margie also started a program through their church. The Young at Hearts Program, a wonderful gathering with music, fellowship and luncheon. Wes and Margie are both loved by many and they have touched so many lives. Wes will be greatly missed.

Visitation Friday, June 6, 2014 3pm-7pm at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 F Street, Oakdale.

Service June 7, 2014 10:00 am, Oak Valley Church 175 South Bryan Avenue, Oakdale.

Graveside Service will follow, Oaklawn Memorial Park, 421 North Sierra Avenue, Oakdale.
