Received a from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York,in 1876 and then attend the Rochester Theological
Seminary where he graduated in 1877. Received a MA from
Hazelton College and a D.D. in 1895 from Franklin College
in Indiana. In 1904 he received a Doctor of Laws degree
from the University of Missouri

Ordained as a Baptist Minister in Fenton, Michigan.
Served as Baptist minister in [1]Fenton, Michigan [ca.1876-1882] [2]Fort Wayne, Indiana [1882-1885], [3]Cincinnati, Ohio [1885-1896], [4] Kansas city, Missouri [1896-1906], and
Kansas City, Kansas [1906 to retirement]

Was the president of the board of trustees of the Baptist
Ministers' home for Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and
Wisconsin. Was elected president three times of the Indiana Baptist state convention.

Had at least two daughters: [1] Laura May Northrop [1880-1909] who was the first wife of Lawrence Winslow Robbins
[1867-1925], and [2]Irene Northrop [1897-1984] who married
Jesse Powlison [1895-1987]
