Russell W. Curtis was born April 29, 1921 in Belvidere IL. He passed from this life in Stoughton WI on May 29, 2014 at the age of 93. He was the son of Clyde and Elizabeth Curtis (Anderson). He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, née Gustafson and his brothers Kenneth and Clyde. Russ was a man of unlimited energy and drive. He began his life on a farm in Belvidere and served in the Army Air Force in World War II with the Flying Tigers in the China Burma India Theater where he received a Silver Star for bravery for rescuing a pilot from a burning plane. Russell and Betty began their married life together on a rented dairy farm in Belvidere but soon had the opportunity to purchase Sunnyside Resort on Lake Kegonsa near Stoughton, WI. They owned this fishing resort in the 50's and early 60's then purchased the Marlu Motel in Rockton, IL. He also ran a bait shop, worked at Taylor Freezer and then purchased the Beehive Restaurant while in Rockton. Russ and Betty purchased Outer's Resort in Chetek, WI in the 70's and enjoyed many years summering there and wintering in Texas at Woody's RV Resort. They spent their later years at their cottage on Lake Kegonsa near the former Sunnyside Resort, now Springer's. Russ was an avid fisherman, hunter and sportsman. Russ and Betty knew no strangers, loved to laugh, entertain and dance, winning many trophies during their many years together. They will be remembered by all those who knew them by their kindness and happiness. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, his son William and daughter-in- law, his grandson and his wife.
