Peggy Jean Gholson Austin (fondly known as OMA), 82, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012. She was born on August 9, 1929, in Steep Creek, Texas. She was the oldest of five children born to "Mama Jewel" and "Daddy John" Gholson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John David Austin, Sr., two brothers, Jack and Dempsey Gholson and a sister, Seawillow Gage.

"Oma" was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Doting on her family and grandchildren was her favorite activity. She also loved traveling and reading.

She is survived by her five children and their families, including daughter, Pamela and husband, Robert Thompson, and children, Garrett and Durete; son, David and wife, Barbara, and children, Demetri, Alex, and Samantha; daughter, Dianna and husband, Louis Bobbitt; son, Kenneth and wife, Leslie Austin, and their children, Brittany and KC; daughter, Doris and husband, Jim Willoughby, and their children, Amber and Ashlee. Her surviving sister, Lulee and husband, Billy Dan Van Winkle, reside in Carthage, Texas. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road in Wilmington, with Rev. Mark Tippett officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
