Richard John Edward Bradfield was born in 1890 in Ipswich, Qld, to Richard (Dick) John Edward & Jane Louisa (nee Ward) Bradfield and, was their youngest son, they had nine children.
Richard Jnr was the grandson of John Edward & Maria (nee Crew) Bradfield who had emigrated from England in 1857, Dick's brother Jack was Dr. John Job Crew Bradfield who designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge & the Story Bridge in Brisbane.

Richard was a Blacksmith before enlistment aged 26 yrs.

Regimental No. 2944. Private with the 41st Battn,
6th Reinforcement.
Driver 3rd Field Artillery Brigade.
Embarked from Sydney NSW on board HMAT A64
"Demosthenes" on 23 Dec 1916.
Returned to Australia on 20 Jun 1919.

Richard married Mary Ann Fleming on 14 Feb 1923.
They had four children.
Richard died in 1963 aged 72 years.
