Headstone shown is at Payson City Cemetery in Utah; however, this is just a memorial headstone as Charles Dixon was actually buried somewhere near Davenport, Iowa (as noted on the memorial headstone). NOTE: His wife, Elizabeth Humphrey Dixon IS buried in Payson.

Also, his death year on the memorial headstone is incorrect as he died in preparation to travel West in "1854." His widow, Elizabeth Humphrey Dixon (age 77 at the time) traveled with the Benjamin Thomas Mitchell Company; departure date: 1 June 1854, arriving in Salt Lake City on 5 August 1854.

Excerpt from his bio:

Charles Dixon IV was six years old when he came with his parents to Nova Scotia. During the Revolutionary War he performed garrison duty at Fort Cumberland and acquitted himself creditable. He was first married to Rhoda Emerson and after her death to Elizabeth Humphrey. In 1837 he moved with his wife and youngest children to Kirtland, Ohio, where he purchased property and settled his family, having already embraced the views of the Mormons. When he was 89 and nearly blind, he and his wife with some of his family left Ohio for Salt Lake City, Utah. At Rock Island, where they halted to get their teams ready to cross the plains, he fell on the steps of a hotel and sustained injuries which proved fatal. He was buried at Davenport, Iowa, before the family left, moving on to their destination.

Note: the distance between Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa is 1.5 miles.
