James "Jay" Braddock, a 31-year resident of Saddle Brook, N.J. and a lifelong summer resident of North Branch, died Wednesday, August 22, 2001. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late James J. and Mae Fox Braddock, he was born in North Bergen, N.J.
His father was a renowned former world heavyweight boxing champion.
Mr. Braddock attended St. Joseph's High School and played basketball at Seton Hall. He worked for and retired from the Bergen County Sheriff's Office and had also worked as an operating engineer for Operating Engineers Local 825.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Saddle Brook Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3484, and American Legion Post 415.
An active charter member of the New Jersey Kiwanis Foundation, he held the post of Kiwanis Lt. Governor of New Jersey from 1997 to 2000, was president of the local club from 1991 to 1996 and served as secretary from 1996 to 1997.
A member of St. Philip the Apostle Church and of the Holy Name Society in Saddle Brook, he was also a member of Taejon Chapter #70.
He was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary DeWitt.
