William Ironmonger was born on 23 Apr 1629 in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. He is the son of Samuel Ironmonger (1607-1650) and Bridget (Cordray) Ironmonger (1602-1656).

William married Elizabeth Jones (1617-1675) in 1651 in Gloucester, Gloucester, Virginia, United States. Elizabeth is the daughter of Richard Jones (1590-1660) and Sarah (Thomas) Jones (1600-1660).

William and Elizabeth Ironmonger were the parents of the following known children: Elizabeth, Corderoy. Ann, Martha, Francis and Mary Ironmonger.

William Ironmonger, first child of Samuel Iremonger and Bridgett Cordray Iremonger, was born in England and migrated to Virginia in 1651, becoming a landowner in the Virginia Colony. On December 12, 1663, he purchased 700 acres in Lancaster County upon the head of the easternmost branch of Corrotoman River. On June 3, 1664, he purchased 350 acres in Gloucester County on a branch of the Ware River called Beech Swamp.
