Hans Olai Olsen Arnes was born 8 June 1850 at the Arnes farm in Vik I Helgeland (today called Sømna) in Nordland Norway, son of Ole Kristian Andersen (1809-1879) and Helene Katrine Ravaldsdatter (1812-1894) Arnes.
Mother of Hans, Helene Katrine Ravaldsdatter born 1812 came to MN as a widow in 1883. She died 1894.
Hans Arness had two brothers who also came to Minnesota:
Alexander Kornelius Pedersen Arnes (1841-1924) near Erskine MN. He married 1865 Sømna, Randine Adrianne Olsdatter and they had 7 children. First they used last name Peterson, later Arness.
Johan also came to MN. Wife Inger and son Ole.
From other research including census records: Hans Arness was married three times: Christine Erickson (6 children including a stillborn baby, 1885, when Christine also died) - Annie Martina Johanneson, married 1889, died 1898,(3 children) - Magdelena S Malvig, married 1899, (3 children).
