Funeral services for James Clarence “JC” Ayres, 88, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Newcomer Funeral Home in New Albany with burial and military honors to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. He died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014.
He was a United States Army veteran that proudly served his nation during WWII. JC was a retired truck driver and also drove for Evangel Tours. He was a member of the Suburban Masonic Lodge #740, Charlestown American Legion Post 335, Teamsters Local Union 89, and Evangel Tabernacle. During the last few years of JC’s life, he enjoyed going to flea markets, as well as being the “Grandpa” at the local Zaxby’s restaurants.
He was born on June 1, 1926, in Pennington Gap, Va., to the late Oscar and Della (Hess) Ayres. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Michael Ayres.
JC is survived by his loving wife of nearly 22 years, Carolyn (Lofton) Ayres; sons, Clarence Ayres and wife, Pam, Jerry Ayres and wife, Sherry; daughters, Ann Pilkington (Lynn), Darlene Cochran and husband, Tim; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-
