Brian was born in Kalamazoo, the son of Kenneth L. and Barbara J. (Brummel) Dyk and lived in Grand Rapids for the past 10 years. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Calvin College. He received his certificate in education from Aquinas College and was working on his master's degree at Aquinas College. He was presently teaching at Westside Christian Middle School in Grand Rapids. Brian coached the Grand Rapids Eagles from 1994 to 2004. He served on the CPLA Board for the Michigan Victory Games. He taught at Fremont Providence Christian High School for two years. At Westside Christian Middle School, he enjoyed time working in their Nature Preserve and coached volleyball and soccer. He was a member of the West Leonard Christian Reformed Church where he was very involved in playing the trumpet, in the church choir and working the sound system.

He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Barbara Dyk of Kalamazoo; two brothers and their spouses, Randall and Christee Dyk of Kalamazoo and Stephen and Stephanie Dyk of Waupun, WI; a nephew and niece, Nathan and Lily Dyk; his grandparents, Jeanette Dyk of Jenison, MI and Richard and Betty Brummel of Wyoming, MI; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Edward Dyk.
