Donald (Don) Thomas Abernathy, of Lander, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014. He was 83 years old.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at 2:00 at Hudson's Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at Wildflour/Inn of Lander.
Donald Thomas Abernathy was born in Casper, Wyoming on February 1, 1931 to Freda (Davidson) and Donald Abernathy. He grew up in Glenrock, Wyoming and graduated from Glenrock High in 1949. He married Meverette Gaughran on June 30, 1951. Together they had four children, Debbie, Thomas, Ronald and Gary. Don worked as a derrick man for the first ten years of their married life throughout Wyoming. He moved his family to the Lander area in 1962. Don worked at US Steel for five years and at the same time began a ranching operation. He continued ranching for 52 years in the Lander area.
In 1998 Don married Pam Speigelberg and together they had a daughter, Soleiana.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Martin and Soleiana Abernathy, sons Tom (Millie) and Ron, grandchildren Garric (Amber) Martin, Chelsea (Cheyene) O'Neil, Josie Martin, Rhett (Katherine) Abernathy, Avery (Joshua) Anderson, brother Jim and 11 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Hazel, sisters Elsie Mae and Pat, his son Gary and a great grandson, Gabriel.
