Dorothy Opal Cottrell, 88, of Whitesville, passed away May 26, 2014, at her home with her family and beloved dog, Taco, by her side.
She was born Jan. 5, 1926, to the late Robert Farmer and Emma Evans Farmer of Rich Valley, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cottrell; her son, Ronald Lee Cottrell; brothers, Bill Farmer and Sam Farmer; and a son-in-law, Eugene Ferrell.
She was a lifelong member of Keith Full Gospel Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to garden and read her Bible. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends and all who knew her, especially her faithful and loving dog, Taco.
She is survived by her loving dog, Taco Bell Cottrell; daughters, Dorothy June Ferrell of Orgas and Norma Jean (George) Ball of Big Ugly Creek Road; stepson, Carlos (Clarice) Cottrell of Big Otter; daughter-in-law, Enga Ann Cottrell of Whitesville; grandchildren, Bobby and Christy Cooper of Beckley, Tammy and Jeff Sebok of Fosterville, Terry and Michele Cooper of Eunice, Connie and Cory Lovejoy of Whitesville, Lorie and Dwight Kile of Whitesville, Jimmy Lee and Elli Cooper of Whitesville, Melissa and Gary Blankenship of Hurricane, Leslie Leann and Sean Lilly of Beckley and Gene Allen Ferrell of Nellis; sisters, Mary Helen Nelson of Independence, Va., and Laura Gray Osbourne of Piney Creek, N.C.; a brother, David Farmer of Crockett, Va.; and many great-grandchildren, along with many others who called her "Gran" and a host of nieces and nephews.
Also, we want to thank a very special lady who went above and beyond what we ever expected. Thank you Sallie Starky for all of your help; we couldn't have got through this without you.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Keith Full Gospel Church, Keith, with Pastor June Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, is serving the family.
