Michael was born in Harrisburg on January 5, 1953, to the late Harry Bateman, Sr. and Shirley Bateman. After attending Central Dauphin High School, he joined the US Navy and served proudly during the Vietnam era.
Michael had a long career in automotive sales where he enjoyed the opportunity to help others. He loved his family deeply and was loved by them as well. Those who knew Michael will remember his kindness, quick wit, and a presence which could fill a room.
Those who knew him intimately will remember him as a strong but sensitive man, willing to give all he could in a spirit of love. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Toni Forsythe (Quintin), Julie Cochran (Jason), a son Michael Bateman, and four grandchildren along with two brothers: Daniel Bateman (Lana), and Steven Bateman (Kim). He was preceded in death by his older brother, Harry Bateman, Jr.
The family will receive friends in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg on Monday, June 9, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service with the Rev. Steve Bateman officiating.
Burial, with full military honors, will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Harrisburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
