Professional Boxer. He was 5 foot 4 and weighed 95 pounds when he began his amateur boxing career in New York. Turning pro in 1925 at age 16, he won the National Boxing Association's version of the bantamweight title. He was considered the best fighter, pound-for-pound in the world with titles to include, Featherweight Champion 1927-28, Lightweight Champion 1930-33, 1935-36 and Jr. Lightweight Champion 1931-33. He retired in 1939 with a career 176 bouts, 141 won, 44 by knockout, lost 24, 1 by knockout, fought 10 draws and 3 no-decisions. In 1956, he was inducted into Ring Magazine's Boxing Hall of Fame and into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.
