Revolutionary War Soldier. Printer. Editor. After leaving the College of Philadelphia, he became his father's partner in the printing business. He also became the associate editor of the "Pennsylvania Journal," which he transformed into the "True American" in 1801. He later became printer to Congress, succeeding his father William, in that capacity. In 1775 he became captain of a military company in Philadelphia, and later was commissary-general of the Pennsylvania division of the continental army. He helped found Philadelphia's Philosophical Society.
