Born Eleanor Lare in Port Allegheny, Pa. November 24th, 1915, she moved to Hamburg with her family, graduating from Hamburg High School in 1933 and from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1937. She received a master's degree in education from Syracuse University in 1947. Also in 1947, she married Warren T Harpster.

During World War II, Mrs. Harpster worked at Western Electric in Syracuse.

During the 1950s and early 1960s, she lived in the Town of Tonawanda and taught elementary school at Big Tree School in Hamburg, in the Sweet Home School District and in North Tonawanda. She also assisted disabled children in the Buffalo area as part of the BOCES program.

She moved to Sudbury, Mass., in the late 1960s, then in 1970 returned to the Town of Tonawanda. In 2000, she moved to Columbus, Ohio to be closer to family.

Mrs. Harpster was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Church of the Nativity in the Town of Tonawanda and the American Association of University Women.

She died in Columbus, Ohio July 7th, 2006. She was 90 years old.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Warren T.; two sons, Warren W. and Allen P.; and a daughter, Ellen A, as well as 5 grandchildren.
