Martha W. Stout, 100, of Milan, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Milan. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Adult Down Syndrome Clinic, Park Ridge, Ill.
Martha was born Feb. 22, 1909, in Alton, Ill., the daughter of Walter and Maude Rhodes Grady. She married Herschel R. Stout on Oct. 15, 1927, in Alton. He preceded her in death in March of 1978.
Mrs. Stout was employed in the office of the Happy Day Laundry, Rock Island, and Carlson Laundry, Moline, retiring in 1974.
On Feb. 22, 2009, Martha was honored at an open house to celebrate her 100th birthday with many relatives and friends attending.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, Hauberg Senior Citizens, Moline Seniors, Widows and Widower's Club and the Friendship Club at the W.L. Young Housing.
She enjoyed playing bingo and other activities at W.L. Young community room as well as playing cards. Martha had a special bond with her grandson, Matthew, who has Down Syndrome, and enjoyed spending time with him.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Linda Stout; son-in-law and spouse, Earl and Betty Weir; grandchildren and spouses, Richard Weir, Debby and Steve Seyller, Kathy and Adam Watson, Marth Dover, Georgia, Mark and Julie Stout, Matthew Stout; 10 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Weir, in January of 2006; an infant child; and a brother, Robert Grady.
