Johnny Roy Burgess, Sr, age 65, of Newton passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006 at his residence. Born April 21. 1941 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Henry Burgess and the late Francis Moore Burgess. Mr. Burgess served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Maiden Church of God and the American Legion Post 240 of Maiden. In addition to his parents, a sister, Nellie Burgess, preceded him in death.The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Rev. Benny Manning and Rev. Wade Danner officiating.
