Mary Florence Matthews Shaw 89 was born on March 28, 1921, in Fort Davis, TX. She passed away on April 15, 2010 in El Paso, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Fannie Matthews; 2 brothers, Carl Vincent Matthews and Byron Yeager Matthews; three sisters Ora Perkins, Mabel Kinstle and Francis Matthews; and her beloved husband of over 60 years, Rufus Finch Shaw Jr. She is survived by her loving sister Louise Good of Deming NM, two sons, Douglas Weldon Shaw of Annapolis, MD and Gary Holden Shaw of El Paso, TX; and 5 grandchildren, Caleb Isaiah Shaw of Victoria, TX, Josiah Luke Shaw of Victoria, TX, Jared Matthew Shaw of Norfolk, VA, Regina Ryane Shaw of Kansas City, MO and Chelsea Alana Shaw of Omaha, NE. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Mr. Joe Tarter of El Paso. Mary Florence was a devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of El Paso for over 68 years. She was a student of the Bible and found joy in service and special fulfillment working with Special Needs adults. She was also very active in the Gideon's Auxiliary. Mary Florence loved the simple life of family and church. She touched many lives though her quiet dedicated service. She truly lived Christ in every aspect of her life and leaves behind numerous friends, many of whom she shared prayers and laughs with her for over 75 years. The family would like to express deep love and appreciation to the ministers and congregation of First Baptist Church and the "Prime-Timers." They would also like to express appreciation and admiration for the caring staff of the ER and ICU at University Medical Center and to the professional staff of Southwest Medivac. Graveside Service for Mary Florence Shaw will be held prior to the celebration ceremony, on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St. A Life Celebration Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 19, 2010 in the Ford Chapel at the First Baptist Church, 805 Montana Ave., El Paso, TX. Officiating will be close family friend, Ron Fox, pastor of Valley View Baptist Church. Honorary Pall Bearers for the funeral are Ed Allen, JW Bowman, Fred Edens, Bill Grant, Randy Gschwind, Jerry Inman, and Jackie Stewart. The family respectfully requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Gideon's International - El Paso Camp, PO Box 2043, El Paso, TX 79951.
